The Weary is an Ideal Walking and Hiking Base
North and East Cumbria is a natural destination for walkers who want to explore the beauty and tranquility of the North Pennines or the atmosphere and scenery of Hadrian's Wall country. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty with its own unique and beautiful countryside, unspoilt by crowds. It really is the Lake District without the hassle. A great many walks are easily accessible from our Cumbrian hotel and offer great hiking for walkers of all abilities. From short, gentle walks around local woodlands, tarns and nature reserves, to hill-walking in the peaks of the North Pennines or undiscovered paths of Geltsdale - a stay in our hotel in Cumbria offers a myriad of walking options, unrivalled anywhere in England.
Beginning literally on the doorstep of our Cumbrian hotel is a walk described by the Times as 'One of the great walks of Northwest England'. Covering the wooded shoreline of the glacial Talkin Tarn, and the sandstone gorges and Roman quarries of the River Gelt - it truly deserves such accolades. For those with steeper climbs in mind, the fells of the North Pennines rise just above the Weary Sportsman, offering gorgeous views across to the hills of Galloway in Southern Scotland and the Lake District.
The Weary Sportsman Cumbrian hotel is an ideal base from which to explore and walk in Hadrian's Wall country. We regularly welcome hikers who are travelling the length of the wall, using Castle Carrock as a handy stop-off point for their tour of this fascinating and historic part of the world. There are also numerous circular walks within easy reach of our Cumbrian hotel, offering our guests the chance to walk sections of the wall and the beautiful countryside around it.
